What Does It Mean to Move Mountains in Sales?
SALES FUNDAMENTALS

Ever tried moving a mountain? Neither have I. But in the world of sales, we often find ourselves attempting the impossible and earlier this month, I got the chance to celebrate the climb!
Receiving the 2024 Transportation Marketing and Sales Association (TMSA) Sales Mountain Mover Award was like being handed the Olympic torch of the transportation industry—minus the spandex. This prestigious honor recognizes one "leading sales and business development professional in the transportation industry whose achievements, performance, and vision have significantly shaped their company or the industry at large." Being acknowledged in this way has prompted me to reflect on what it truly means to be a “mountain mover” in our field.
In this episode of TMSA's On The Move, Jennifer Karpus-Romain, TMSA Executive Director, and I discuss what it means to be a sales mountain mover today.
We also delve into my unconventional journey in logistics, the transformative power of collaboration, mentorship, and the biggest challenge facing transportation executives today.
Winning this award reminds me why I’m so passionate about the work I do. It’s not just about driving results (though let’s be honest, that’s fun too). It’s about being part of something bigger—an industry that’s constantly evolving, innovating, and lifting one another up. It’s about inspiring peers, customers, and stakeholders to push past limitations and create meaningful, measurable progress. It's a testament to the power of relationships. Over the years, I’ve been deeply influenced by the brilliant minds and creative strategies of colleagues who’ve shaped my approach to sales and marketing. It’s also about showing up—every day—with authenticity, grit, and the willingness to collaborate for the greater good.
Moving mountains isn’t just a metaphor; it’s what we’re here to do!
What does moving mountains mean to you? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
